Welcome back. This is Part 2 of our 3-part series breaking down how to show up on LinkedIn with strategy, soul, and intention. If you missed part 1, check it out here.
In Part 1, we focused on optimizing your profile and building a network that actually aligns with your values. If you missed it, pause and read that first. Your profile is your foundation. Without it, your content will hit different… and not in a good way.
Today, we’re shifting the focus from profile building to visibility strategy. Let’s talk content. Showing up about being present and purposeful.
Content Is Queen (But Strategy Is Her Favorite Stylist)
Posting once a month is not gonna cut it. If you want people to see you as a go-to expert, collaborator, or strategic partner, you need to do more than share outcomes. You need to show your thinking. And no, this doesn’t mean you have to post every day or spill your entire playbook online. It means finding your voice, being consistent, and showing people how you think through challenges and bring results to life.
Share What You Know
Original posts (like this one) that offer real value build trust. You don’t need to go viral. You just need to be helpful, relevant, and human. Think frameworks. Quick tips. Mistakes you learned from. Industry trends worth watching. Honest takes on what’s working and what’s not.
If you’re a service provider, include testimonial’s about how you helped a client reach their goals. If you sell a product, explain the features and benefits your customers can expect. If you’re a consultant, break down what people get wrong about grant writing, DEI rollouts, or leadership development.
Here’s what we know works:
- Share your point of view on industry trends
- Give a behind-the-scenes look at how you solve problems
- Tell the story behind your latest win or lesson
- Ask your audience a question they’ll actually want to answer
Remember, you are the content. Show them what it’s like to work with you.
Find Your People Inside LinkedIn Groups
Yes, groups still exist. And Yes, the right ones can be a gold mine.
The key is to join groups aligned with your audience, not just your peers. For example, if you’re a web designer, don’t just join other designer groups. Join groups full of nonprofit leaders, startup founders, and marketing directors who hire designers.
Join the Right Spaces
Look for groups where your voice adds value. For example, we would join groups around:
- Black Women in Leadership
- Social Impact Storytelling
- BIPOC Founders and Funders
- Health Equity and Innovation in Nonprofits
And if there isn’t a group that reflects your vibe or your voice, build one. Your people will find you.
Add Value, Don’t Just Lurk
No one remembers the person who never says anything. Be an active presence. Share useful articles. Ask thoughtful questions. Respond with insights. Offer resources. Be the person who makes the group smarter, not the one who only shows up to drop links to their latest post.
Yes, LinkedIn Ads Can Work (If You Do Them Right)
If you’ve got some budget to play with, LinkedIn Ads can put your brand directly in front of decision-makers in a way that feels aligned. This is especially powerful in B2B, nonprofit, and professional services spaces where trust matters more than trending content.
Get Laser-Focused on Your Audience
LinkedIn’s targeting tools are no joke. You can reach people based on job title, company size, industry, geography, and even interests. You can even speak to them by their first name. Trust me, that strategy will stop someone from scrolling. A woman-owned creative studio might target:
- Marketing directors at mid-sized nonprofits
- Communications leads at social justice orgs
- Founders of purpose-driven startups
Think carefully about who signs the check and who influences the decision. That’s your sweet spot.
Your Ad Should Say Something Real
Please. No corporate stock photos or generic slogans. Your ad should tell a quick story, highlight a transformation, and include a clear call to action.
Example:
“We helped this Atlanta nonprofit go from confused messaging to $1.2 million in new grants. See how.”
Pair that with a scrollable carousel that shows the visual brand overhaul. Clean, clear, and compelling.
Track the Metrics That Actually Matter
You don’t need to become a data analyst. But you do need to understand what’s landing.
Start by checking:
- Impressions and reach (Is your audience growing?)
- Engagement (Are people commenting and sharing?)
- Profile views (Are the right people clicking through?)
- Website clicks (Is this content driving traffic to your services?)
Adjust Based on Data
If you want to get fancy, try creating some graphics for a carousel. If your carousels get more saves than your text posts, double down. If your success stories drive traffic but your quote cards fall flat, shift your focus. The goal is not to go viral. The goal is to consistently show up in a way that builds trust, attracts the right audience, and drives action.
