PART 3: Turning Comments into Clients: LinkedIn Strategies That Actually Work

PART 3: Turning Comments into Clients: LinkedIn Strategies That Actually Work

Welcome to the final installment of our 3-part series on building a magnetic presence on LinkedIn. In Part 1, we built your foundation, an optimized profile that tells your story and speaks to your people. In Part 2, we helped you show up with intention by creating content that builds trust and visibility.

Now, it’s time for the part too many folks skip or fumble: the follow-through. Visibility without conversion is just a vanity metric. Let’s talk about how to turn engagement into real opportunities, with clarity and care.

Start With The Comment Section

Before you ever slide into someone’s inbox, show up in their comments. You can add value by sharing insights, celebrating wins, or asking smart questions. Engagement is where relationships start. And the way you show up there will determine how your DMs are received.

Comment Like a Connector

Not all comments are created equal. Here’s how to make yours memorable:

  • “This was so helpful. I’ve seen the same thing with our clients in the education space. Thank you for breaking this down.”
  • “Loved this breakdown, especially the part about investing in inclusive visuals. That’s something we talk about with our nonprofit partners all the time.”
  • “Would love to connect and share how we’ve been supporting community-centered campaigns with similar goals.”

The goal is to connect, not just comment. So don’t be afraid to show your perspective.

Slide Into DMs With Intention

Everyone is cold pitching in Linkedin DMs. We get at least 50 messages a week. But if you can find a way to start a real conversation, that’s where the magic happens. Here’s how to approach it like a human, not a spam bot:

The Warm DM

These are messages to people who have interacted with your posts, commented on your content, or shown some kind of interest in what you do.

Example:

“Hey [Name], thanks for the thoughtful comment on my post about brand strategy for health equity orgs. It’s always refreshing to connect with folks doing work that actually matters. If you’re open to it, I’d love to hear more about what you’re building.”

This opens the door to connection without pressure. It centers relationship before revenue.

The Aligned Offer

Once a conversation is going and you’ve identified mutual interest, this is where you move with clarity.

Example:

“Sounds like you’re navigating a lot of growth right now, especially with your team expanding. We’ve supported a few clients in similar transitions with messaging and web redesigns. Would you be open to a quick call to see if we’re a fit?”

Short. Specific. Aligned. No hard sell.

Make It Easy to Take the Next Step

Don’t leave people guessing. If someone expresses interest, guide them.

  • Drop your scheduling link with a quick line: “Here’s a link to my calendar if you want to chat more.”
  • Have a soft sales one-pager or services overview ready to share.
  • If they’re not ready, that’s fine. Stay connected, keep showing up, and circle back later.

Focus on building relationships that will convert over time.

DM Etiquette That Respects Your Energy

You don’t have to respond to everyone, nor do you need to be glued to LinkedIn to be successful. Here’s how to do this with ease:

  • Set boundaries. Turn off notifications during deep work time. Block or mute people who cross lines.
  • Use templates. Have go-to responses saved for common messages (like collab requests or vendor pitches).
  • Qualify leads early. Ask about timelines, goals, and budget early on so you’re not wasting energy.

Build a Simple System That Sells While You Sleep

Here’s the real flex: when your profile, content, and DM strategy are aligned, LinkedIn starts working for you even when you’re offline.

Chromie Tips:

  • Keep your profile CTA current (link to booking page, freebie, or newsletter)
  • Have at least one client-converting post per week
  • Check your messages weekly and follow up with warm leads
  • Repurpose high-performing content into carousels, videos, or blog posts
  • Use LinkedIn’s “Featured” section to highlight work that builds credibility

This is how you stop chasing and start attracting.
